I love animals and especially dogs. I am inspired to draw and paint many things, not just animals and often use photography to record beautiful plays of light, colour, texture in nature when I am out walking my dog. I use these to keep 'looking' and 'seeing' - the tools of any artist. The colour and light work that I do with photography and with drawing and sketching as well as oil painting all contribute to my pet portrait drawings.  Some of it is conscious and much of it sinks in and helps me when I am working on a particular dog's coat texture or colour as well as composition and lighting for your pet's portrait.

Here are a few recent images I have taken for my sketchbook - as you can see my inspiration is not just animals!
